'Pokemon Sun and Moon’ Guide: Where to Catch Red Gyarados Early in the Game

One of the iconic Pokemon in "Pokemon Sun and Moon" is the Red Gyarados. It has always been one of the strongest Pokemon in previous games so players today is looking for it and hoping to have it early in the game. And based on one player's experience, it looks like it really is possible for trainers to have it in the first part of the game.

How to Find a Red Gyarados in "Pokemon Sun and Moon"

The key in finding a Red Gyarados in the game is to focus on getting a shiny Magikarp which is not as hard as it seems. Unbeknownst to many, Magikarp has many spawn areas. In Melemele Island, Magikarp can be found in Melemele Meadow, Melemele Sea and Kala'e Bay. For players that are already in the second island, Akala Island, they can find Magikarp in Paniola Town, Route 5, 7, 8 and 9. For advanced players that have already reached the third island, Poni Island, just head to Seafolk Village, Ancient Poni Path, Poni Wilds, Poni Gauntlet, Poni Path, Poni Breaker Coast and Poni Plains. And then for those that are almost done with the game, Ula'ula Island has fishing spots in Route 13, 14, 15, Malie City and the Secluded Shore.

Once the player has reached any of its habitat, get the rods ready and start fishing. Based on the player's experience, it is possible for a trainer to encounter not just an ordinary wild Magikarp but a shiny one too. Although the chances are probably better if the player engage an SOS battle with every Magikarp they encounter with the hopes of a shiny Pokemon showing up. Nevertheless, players should not lose hope that they could be lucky to suddenly encounter a shiny Magikarp in one of their battles.

The Secret in Finding a Red Gyarados in "Pokemon Sun and Moon"

Once a shiny Magikarp is caught, players only need to take the time and effort to evolve it and they will finally have the Red Gyarados that most players can only dream of. Evolving a Gyarados isn't really hard anyway since it only needs to reach level 20 and maximize its happiness level to start the evolution.
