Besides actor Robert Downey Jr. who was rumored to be replaced as Iron Man, another Marvel superhero speculated to no longer be in the next franchise of the movie is Chris Evans as Captain America. While Marvel President Kevin Feige insisted Evans is the gold standard of Captain America as Christopher Reeve is of Superman, an Instagram post indicates another actor may portray the superhero with the shield in the next “Captain America” film.
On Monday, actor Sebastian Stan posted a photo on Instagram showing his back turned while holding the shield with a red star in the middle. However, Inquistr points out that the shield that Chris Evans used in “Captain America: Civil War” had a red, white and blue motif, while Sebastian Stan’s shield had only one red star on a silver background.
A Cyborg Named Bucky Barnes
In “Captain America: Civil War,” Sebastian Stan was a cyborg named Bucky Barnes who was also known as The Winter Soldier. He was an old war friend of Captain America who became a HYDRA sleeper agent and then returned again to being the superhero’s buddy, Digital Spy notes.
However, since “Captain America: Civil War” ended in the superhero renouncing his superhero name following his fallout with Iron Man over Captain America’s protecting Bucky Barnes from the American government, it makes sense for Sebastian Stan to take over the role.
Marvel Comics Versus Marvel Movies
Bucky Barnes becoming Captain America, after all, did happen in Marvel Comics, although only for brief periods of time when Steve Rogers, the other identity of Captain America, was nowhere to be found, had died or renounced the superhero name. However, in the movie version, Bucky Barnes was last seen on ice in Wakanda, a country in Africa, after he fled with Steve Rogers when “Captain America: Civil War” ended. Inquistr points out that the contract of Chris Evans with Marvel to portray Captain America is for six movies and the upcoming “Avengers: Infinity War” is his sixth movie. However, Sebastian Stan has a nine-movie contract with Marvel.
