"Moana," one the best-reviewed Walt Disney Animation film is set to break the annual box office record of Universal Studios. Disney already cemented its status with just the Thanksgiving weekend opening.
The five-day holiday weekend has been great to Disney's "Moana" movie which collected $81.1 million only with domestic theaters. The animation film is ranked as the second-best behind only "Frozen" on Thanksgiving opening record. "Frozen has earned $93.6 million for Disney Animation Studios in 2013 on Thanksgiving record.
"Moana" is a story about a young lady named with the same movie title, who is the daughter of a chief in a Polynesian tribe. The brave "Moana" pursue her own quest to protect her tribe in search for the Te Feti tribe's Heart that the demigod Maui has stolen.
Despite the father is preventing her from sailing, "Moana" continued on her journey to get back the Heart from the demigod Maui. The demigod doesn't want to return the Heart in fear of others would kill just to get hands on the Te Feti heart.
The story of "Moana" has the same formula as the animated movie "Tangled," according to the Verge. However, "Moana" has a huge difference with "Tangled" and other Disney fairytale movies, t which makes the film.
Every piece of "Moana" is precise as expected by the viewers of the film. The story has no loose ends which seamlessly flow to the entire scene of the animated film. The timing of humor, the beautiful landscape and the wondrous moments of the film are not forced.
With the good reviews "Moana" has earned, it is no wonder that Disney may take over the number one spot at the global box office. According to Forbes, Disney has already generated $5.85 billion at the global films with its three films "Doctor Strange," "Moana," and "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" which is yet to be released.
Meanwhile, Universal finished last year with $6.89 billion in global box office. Disney will only need $1 billion to grab the top spot. Disney could possibly achieve this since "Moana" will be released to worldwide theaters this November 30 and "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" is days away from its theater release.
