It's been four months since "Wayward Pines" Season 2 ended and still there's not an official announcement on whether or not the series has been renewed for another season. But there is much hope that there will be a "Wayward Pines" Season 3 and if it happens, it could be the final season.
Show executive producer, M. Night Shyamalan, said in an earlier interview that he sees "Wayward Pines" as a story that will last for three seasons. This could mean that the FOX series might have its final run if it gets renewed. But that's the question for now because the network hasn't officially given the green light to "Wayward Pines" Season 3. For Fox Television Group Chairman and CEO, Dana Walden, it is a big possibility.
"I definitely think there could be a season three," Walden told the press. "It's still the number one scripted show of the summer." She added that although "Wayward Pines" struggled in its second season, the numbers are still doing great. Season 2 may not have done as excellently as the pilot season but overall, it was a good run. Walden also said that she had already heard the pitch for "Wayward Pines" Season 3 and she said she liked how "compelling" the idea is.
Network executives are currently discussing about giving the go signal to "Wayward Pines" Season 3. If indeed the series gets renewed, it's possible that Jason Patric, who played Theo Yedlin in Season 2, will return. "Wayward Pines" is a series that changes its lead every season. Season 1 was headed by Matt Dillon but his character died toward the end. Patric then became the lead for the sophomore season and his character was last seen inside the hibernation pod.
Dana Walden suggested that those who were alive at the end of the previous season, could make a comeback for "Wayward Pines" Season 3, Slashfilm reported. For now, nothing is certain yet and fans will just have to wait for more updates.
