In a report from Entertainment Weekly, the cast of "Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life" revival were from the original members of the show. The original cast were given the same role they had a few years ago. The actors and actresses stated that they approached their characters differently, just to help them play it again in a comfortable manner.
Lauren Graham who plays Lorelai Gilmore said she just simply went back into her character. "To pick it up again felt really kind of inevitable," Graham said about her character as Lorelai. "[It was] definitely easy in most ways."
While Kelly Bishop who plays Emily Gilmore also stated that her character, "has been there all along. She travels around with me, so as far as Emily's personality and her character, it was just waiting for me to climb into the suit and zip it up."
However, not all of them got into their characters again right away. Some of the actors had to do a lot of work personally before they returned to the set of the hit TV show, Alexis Bledel admitted that she had to think about how she would play her character again without knowing that she wants Rory to be different. She said she wondered what happened to Rory after they left the screens off eight years ago.
On the other hand, Jared Padalecki who plays the character of Dean in the revival said he had to do some research about what he will be doing next. The actor said he watched a few seasons of the show again, so he would know his take to it. He even stated that he focused on the first 5 seasons of the hit show.
