“The Elder Scrolls” is the series that redefined what RPG and sandbox gaming should be. “Skyrim” is the latest installment in the series and even though not regarded as the best, it is still an amazing piece of software, which every gamer should try at least once in his life.
“The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim” Special Edition is a good reason for the people who missed the game to try it out, but is it worth buying over the original release? If you ask Gameradar, then the answer is quite positive. There has been an amazing improvement to graphics. Some textures have been replaced and PS4 Pro users may even experience the game in 4K resolution. The adventure of “Skyrim” is still there in its full power.
The open world experience, the smooth flow of the menus and the character leveling system are as great as they used to be. Another big plus to the special edition of the game is that it includes all the previous DLC’s released for “Skyrim” without any additional need for purchase. The strongest point of the Special Edition is that it allows modding on consoles, which brings about a whole new world of opportunities.
On the downside, the game is worth buying for consoles only, since PC release got ultra-high textures mod a long time ago. Another problem is the one which haunts all of the Bethesda games, that is the presence of a lot of bugs, most of which break the game’s ambience through constant sound glitches. Kidz World adds in their review, that the story of the game is quite weak and frame rates are locked on 30, which makes the game feel heavier than it should.
The Country Caller has shared that there will be no new “Elder Scrolls” game coming in the next year, or even one in development. At the moment Bethesda are busy working on additional content for “Fallout 4” together with the release and post-release work on “Dishonored 2” they do not have the manpower to work on additional projects.
So, no matter if fans like it or not, for now “The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim” Special Edition is the latest product they can get their hands on.
