The People's Champion smack talks on the cover of WWE 2K14 and new trailer

The self proclaimed "most electrifying man in sports entertainment" is certainly a heavy title to shoulder, much like making the cover of the latest WWE game, and similarly, one that only a man of Herculean strength can burden. How fitting then must it be that the man set to play the titular Greek hero of legend is the very same to grace the cover doing that which he does best, talkin' smack like a true people's champion. Seems like even a seven year hiatus from the ring isn't enough to keep the popularity of the Rock at bay, because he's the choice for this year's cover.

Said the Rock on being chosen, "I am exceptionally grateful to be chosen for the cover of WWE 2K14 and serve as the first cover Superstar under 2K's leadership. I want the cover of WWE 2K14 to electrify the people. I want the artwork to stand out and set a new standard for all WWE video games from 2K, both today and in the future." Translation: "Get your roody poo, candy asses over here to buy this game, and watch the Great One lay the smack down, unless you want the Rock to take you down Know Your Role Boulevard, on the corner of Jabroni Drive, and check you directly into the Smackdown Hotel!"

Or something to that effect.

The Rock will be laying said smack down on a number of WWE superstars of both the past (when it used to be called the WWF, good times...) and present. Only eight have been announced so far, and you'll see most of 'em in the new trailer: the Macho Man Randy Savage, John Cena, Dolph Ziggler, Ryback, Stone Cold Steve Austion, Shawn Michaels, and obviously, the Rock. The company is expected to announce more characters during the week of Summer Slam, this August.

Now, in the case that the Rock isn't your fav wrestler, creative types are in luck. 2K games recently announced that fans will be able to create their own custom covers over at the official 2K Games website. Contestants have their pick of a considerably wider array of wrestlers, including Kane, Big Show, Randy Orton, Sheamus, Jerry Lawler, the Undertaker, and others. Whichever entry 2K Games finds to be the most creative wins the contest, and with it, their entry will be included inside retail copies of the game. Entries are submitted via Twitter with the hashtag #WWE2K14Cover. More details can be found at the website.

Now, a cover of the man considered as one of, if not the greatest mike handler the WWE has to offer is all well and good, but hearing him and seeing what he'll be like in the game? Considerably better, which is why there's the game's first official trailer, which you can check out below. It's a short peek at the gameplay, but it's certainly better than nothing. Check it out below, and remember, WWE 2K14 hits PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on October 29th.
