On October 4, Google announced its new product, Google Wifi. The company is yet to announce the release date into the market. The company, however, claims that it has outsped the competition through a third party speed testing company.
Google Wifi Speed Test Results
Google hired Allion U.S.A., a testing services company, to evaluate how the upcoming Google Wifi performs compared to mesh routers from Luma and Eero. Luma and Eero were given a significant amount of funding this year with the investors' belief that both can make home networking better through mesh networking. Google's entry into the market and investors' interests implies that there is a huge room for enhancement in home networking.
Allion USA set-up three home wifi networks in a 300 square foot, two-story home for each vendor. The test was conducted using MacBook Air. Each network consisted of two units. In the test, Google claimed that Google Wifi performs faster by a significant margin than the competing networking devices. Further, it says that Google Wifi is 75% faster compared to Eero in the living room, and twice more as fast as Luma in the same location. In bedroom, Google Wifi's speed went up to 228 Mbps while Luma got 205Mbps and Eero with only 186 Mbps.
Google Wifi Beats Luma, Eero
Eero refused to make comment and Luma did not respond to a request for a comment. Allion declined to elaborate its testing method. Google Wifi will be released on December 6, and until that day, neither Eero nor Luma can perform the same test Allion conducted.
CEO and Eero co-founder Nick Weaver last week informed Eero owners that the company will release updated version of mesh networking technology, The Register reported. He further claimed that owners will experience twice the LAN speed within their network.
