While fans await the sequels to "Avatar" by James Cameron, Walt Disney World's Animal Kingdom is nearly finished with the expansion based upon the first "Avatar" film. Now, Disney has officially announced that "Pandora: The World of Avatar" is opening in summer 2017.
"Pandora: The World of Avatar" is a themed area currently being constructed in the south-west portion in Disney World's Animal Kingdom in Florida. The area is based on the fictional moon named Pandora from James Cameron's Avatar film series and will include the moon's floating mountains, aliens, wildlife and bioluminescent plants. The park will also feature entertainment, 3D holograms, audio animatronics with food and beverage outlets.
Speaking of food and beverage areas, Disney Parks has recently released images from "Pandora: The World of Avatar" attraction which showed the bridge area, the restaurant/ souvenir shop and a drinking area. The places inside the park are named after terms used within the film franchise. An example of that is the bridge that connects the themed area to the rest of Disney World's Animal Kingdom.
As Disney Parks reveals, the bridge from "Pandora: The World of Avatar" was built by the RDA (Resource Development Administration). However, now that the company has been away from the planet, nature is starting to take its toll and is now open to explorers and visitors. There is also the Satu'il with a focus on Na'vi art and cultural items not to mention it also serves as a restaurant. There is also something called Pongu Pongu, which is a special drink location.
"The Pandora: World of Avatar" also offers rides which includes "Avatar: Flight of Passage." Guests will get to experience what is it like to fly over the jungles of Pandora on a back of a mountain banshee. It also offers the Na'vi River Journey, which is a family boat ride through the bioluminescent forest of Pandora.
