Splinter Cell has been one of the longer running game franchises. Ubisoft's flagship franchise has seen six titles since debuting nearly ten years ago. From the start the series has been commended for its mixture of stealth and action gameplay.
A recent report from ArabicGamers now confirms that the series won't die with the current generation of consoles. Art director for Splinter Cell: Blacklist, Scott Lee, tells the gaming publication that Ubisoft is hard at work prepping new adventures for Sam Fisher on the next generation of gaming systems.
"For next gen there are a lot of plans in the works, obviously we can't talk about that at the moment but I definitely look forward to seeing Sam in new adventures, bigger and better as we go along. Sam will be back," Lee tells ArabicGamers.
Lee doesn't share too many details about the franchise's future but promises releases across all next gen consoles. His words aim to calm chatter that Ubisoft has forgotten about the franchise.
"Sam Fisher and Splinter Cell is a big and very important franchise for Ubisoft, and yes they do support the franchise. Obviously we're working very hard on current gen systems and we're super excited that we're going to be across all platforms," continues Lee.
The Splinter Cell franchise has fallen off a little bit over the last ten years. Other Ubisoft franchises like Fry Cry and Assassins Creed have started to take some shine off the series. Ubisoft Montreal Managing Director Jade Raymond recently said that Splinter Cell has struggled because of its complex gameplay.
Raymond told Eurogamer in April that the games stealth gameplay has failed to entice newcomers to the series. He said that Splinter Cell is a "thinking game" that is different from most games currently on the market. Despite Raymond's words, the series still looks to be moving forward. Along with the next gen talk, Ubisoft is set to release Splinter Cell: Blacklist this August. The title will be offered on PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii U on August 20.
