The comic series designed to flesh out the story behind Injustice: Gods Among Us and explain what turned Superman from a respectable hero into a tyrannical demagogue has managed to eclipse all the spots of Amazon's Kindle Top Twenty for Single Issue Comics.
The first 20 issues of the storyline have taken the top spots, which is pretty respectable for a comic series based on a game.
Ed Boon spilled the beans that a comic based on the game would be released back in October, saying it would "carry the story and tell the events that came before the game." The first issue became available for download in mid-January.
Perhaps best known for his work on the Star Wars comics and the The Deep, the Injustice comics are penned by Tom Taylor, with art by Jheremy Raapack.
Speaking with Comic Book Resources, Taylor promised the books are every bit as gripping as NeatherRealms promised the game would be, claiming, "Our series shows the tragic, soul-destroying events leading up to this brave new world. Don't expect a lot of rainbows and kittens." Taylor credited the staff at NeatherRealms for providing a great story for the comic to follow, saying, "The source material and the great game script Brian Chard, Dominic Cianciolo, John Vogel and the people at NetherRealm put together has really informed this series. There's no doubt that our book has a darker tone than anything I've ever written before and that's largely because of the work that has come before, rather than the darkness lurking in my own mind. I guess what I'm saying is, 'blame them.'"
