This was during the Texas Conference for Women where Amal Clooney was the keynote speaker, Marie Claire reports. One of them is her mother, an award winning journalist Baria Alamuddin, whom she admires for being a successful mother and career woman at the same time.
Vogue reports she also mentioned Supreme Court justice Sonya Sotomayor. She admires Sotomayor on a professional level ever since she started practicing law. Further in her speech she stated that she will keep working harder on securing some more prosecution for ISIS, since she is now representing a former ISIS captive turner human rights activist Nadia Murad.
According to People, Amal Clooney took time to talk and elaborate about women’s human right and about her client Murad. Murad managed to run away from ISIS and is now a political refugee in Germany after living in captivity as an ISIS sex slave. Since her escape, Murad has stood up to her former captors by becoming a women’s rights activist and by speaking out against the Islamic State. She has been nominated for the Nobel peace prize for her efforts. At her speech she called women to unite, saying that the worst thing to do is not to stand by each other.
Truly, Amal Clooney is a woman with purpose, intelligence, beauty and class. She may admire and see other people as role models, but for many, she is already a role model herself.
