"Avatar 2" has long been announced to come to theaters but its premiere date is still uncertain until now. This James Cameron project is a follow-up to the worldwide box-office hit "Avatar" which was shown in 2009. It was reported that the movie is being delayed due to many issues with its production.
Firstly, the cast of "Avatar 2" may change, or maybe not. This is because some of the key players in the original movie are having problems with negotiations, particularly with their talent fees.
Main Cast
It was reported that Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington might just be fired from "Avatar 2" because they want higher pay terms. Plus, it was said that the two actors stated that they will not be reporting to the set until their demand is met and the producers made a formal offer according to their wishes.
With regards to this, Cameron said that he is not sure whether they can give in to their demands in terms of fees because "Avatar 2" has a very limited budget. Since this is the situation, then it is most likely that Saldana and Worthington are not coming back to the "Avatar" sequel anymore.
On the other hand, it was said that Cameron choose to put more focus on the characters of Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang instead since they are already confirmed to do "Avatar 2." The latter was an antagonist in the original film and his role could change to a better one for the upcoming film.
Movie Plot
Back in September, Cameron sat down with Variety for an interview. He was asked about the storyline of "Avatar 2" and the Oscar-winning director said that the plot is leaning more on leans more on family adventure genre.
He further explained that "Avatar 2" will focus more on the family of Jake, Neytiri and their children. In summary, it is the avatar family's experience about their struggle against the humans.
3D Movie Feature
For "Avatar 2," Cameron expressed his desire to make his new movie more stunning with the help of the latest technology in the production. The director is set on pushing to the limits of technology just to make sure that the viewers will have the best movie experience.
He specifically mentioned that he wants "Avatar 2" to be viewed in 3D but without the the need to use any glasses. Judging by the director's determination to produce a uniquely hi-tech movie, his wish will surely be realized.
"I'm going to push. Not only for better tools, work flow, high dynamic range and high frame rates," Independent quoted Cameron as saying during his speech at the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers. "I'm still very bullish on 3D, but we need brighter projection, and ultimately I think it can happen - with no glasses. We'll get there." "Avatar 2" is targeted to premiere in 2018.
