The WWE continues its drive to add talent to its roster, a mix of old and new. Following his triumph at UFC 205, the WWE is reportedly opening its doors to Conor McGregor for a possible stint.
It should be noted that Conor McGregor linked to the WWE is not necessarily new. He caused quite a stir some months back when he took a swipe at the WWE locker room. Such drew the ire of several stars who dares “The Notorious” to get into the ring.
Conor McGregor’s jab has seen nothing more as something to gain attention though some believed it was a sign of things to come. And the obvious is possibly seeing the Irishman in the WWE ring someday - either on a regular basis or a one-time deal.
It calls to mind how retired boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. faced off against the Big Show at Wrestlemania 24 where the “Flamboyant One” unrealistically defeated the behemoth before a sellout crowd, WWE.com reported. But as everyone knows, it was purely for show and the same could hold true for Conor McGregor.
The thing here is that luring Conor McGregor to the WWE scene even on a one-time basis will cost the company a hefty sum. The second is whether the UFC would allow the cross-brand appearance, similar to what Ronda Rousey did at Wrestlemania 31.
Triple H mentioned about possibly adding McGregor on a regular basis though that depends if they can fulfill his wish, Forbes reported. McGregor has upped his stakes, wanting a stake in the UFC. Would Vince McMahon allow that to happen?
There are a lot of precedents but adding Conor McGregor will certainly be a big boost. The question now, however, is who would give in to his outrageous demands, an issue that even the UFC is probably distraught at right now.
