"Iron Man 4" fans could be in for two surprising news. "Hacksaw Ridge" director Mel Gibson has already suggested that he might be interested in taking the reigns of "Iron Man" series, while rumors had it that Robert Downey Jr. will no longer reprise his role as Tony Stark.
Mel Gibson told Total Film magazine that it will be fun directing "Iron Man 4" as he has to figure out ways on how to be different from the previous franchise. That will indeed be interesting since the "Blood Father" actor has recently criticized Marvel for making movies that are violent and without conscience.
If Mel Gibson will get to direct "Iron Man 4," fans could be in for a tamer, non-violent Tony Stark. The director-actor made the comment when his "Hacksaw Ridge" was up against Marvel's "Doctor Strange." He has also turned down a role in "Thor" without any explanation but simply said that he will not do it.
While there have been reports that Robert Downey Jr. will reprise his role as Tony Stark if Mel Gibson will direct "Iron Man 4," some rumors have spread that the 51-year-old actor will quit as an Avenger. Some big names in the industry like Stan Lee from Marvel Comics believe that Robert Downey Jr. was born to play the character of "Iron Man."
He added that whoever is doing the casting in Marvel is certainly a genius. If there's a grain of salt to the news that Robert Downey Jr. will no longer reprise his role as Tony Stark in "Iron Man 4," fans will certainly be disheartened.
