Note 7's downfall has paved for China's Huawei to promote another big-screened Android smartphone and the company truly did not disappoint. Huawei Mate 9 is a smarter version of last year's Mate 8 - slightly slimmer and with upgraded internals. Things don't stop there for Huawei, however. Recently released in China is another variant, which will carve itself a niche of its own among consumers.
The Huawei Mate 9 Pro is the third variant at par with the recently announced Porsche Design Mate 9. What differentiates the Mate 9 Pro from its pricey sibling is the fact that it's without the Porsche branding and the black paint job. There are tweaks done in its internals as well.
Similar to the Porsche Mate 9, the Huawei Mate 9 Pro also has a 5.5-inch curved Quad HD AMOLED display. It is powered by a 4,000mAh battery, Kirin 960 processor, and +12MP Leica camera setup. While the astounding 6GB + 256GB RAM configuration is exclusive to the Porsche Mate 9, the Huawei Mate 9 Pro comes with two RAM configs: 4GB + 64GB and 6GB + 128GB.
Android Central reports that while the Huawei Mate 9 Pro is now available in China, Huawei hasn't made announcements yet regarding its launch outside of the country. "The Mate 9 Pro was announced on Monday, November 14th at Huawei's press conference held in Shanghai," an official statement from Huawei reads. "We're very excited to further expand the Mate series and provide people with a choice of devices that meet their needs."
The Huawei Mate 9 Pro comes in three colors: pink, grey, and gold. "The Mate 9 Pro delivers the performance and experience consumers are looking for, while offering a unique and exciting design. More information about the device's availability will be available soon," the company added.
The upgraded Huawei Mate 9 variant is far more affordable than the Porsche Design Mate 9, which goes on sale in Europe for €1395 this December. Meanwhile, Mate 9 Pro's availability outside China is yet to be announced.
