'Orwell' Release Date, News & Update: The Surveillance Game That Keeps An Eye on You

Osmotic Studios made an announcement on Thursday that "Memory Hole" which is Orwell's fourth episode is out in the market. Orwell is a surveillance thriller video game in which players assume the role of a surveillance operative who spies on digital activities of people viewed as potential threats.

Being a member of The Nation. the agent's job is to retrieve information from social media posts and communication devices of suspected criminals and terrorists. The game's surveillance program will allow the players to gain access to the private files belonging to these suspects. The gathered information will then be uploaded into the Orwell system which will be kept permanently as evidence. It is going to be the decision of the players on which information is relevant or isn't to the case.

Mel Taylor, a member of the development team, told CNET that Osmotic Studios wanted the game to be in a world of its own while giving the players a real online-world experience. She also said that as the players go through the data of the game's characters, they will get to know further about their personal life.

Polygon says that George Orwell's novel "1984: Big Brother is Watching You" inspired Osmotic Studios to develop the surveillance thriller video game. A report published in Sputniknews suggested that although the game reflects George Orwell's vision in 1984 about the constant urge of people stalking other people, a spokesperson of Osmotic Studios emphasized that "Orwell" is "completely fictional".

Osmotic Studios has started the weekly release of "Orwell" episodes for PC on October 20, 2016. Anyone interested in becoming Orwell's new recruit, the five-part serial game is available at the official site of Steam. Those who already own it, Steam should download the updates automatically. Under the Spreading Chestnut Tree is the fifth episode of "Orwell" game series which will be released on November 17.
