In an attempt to reboot the insane world of "Saints Row," Volition has crafted what might be the biggest open world action-adventure video game of 2017, aptly titled "Agents of Mayhem." While a lot of people are excited about its over-the-top gameplay, there a selected few who are keen on the game's development and production aspects. The good news is, Volition's James Taylor himself will showcase how the game was crafted.
Scheduled for a talk at the Game Developers Conference next year is Taylor, who will show how one can use physically-based rendering or PBR to create a highly stylized game the likes of "Agents of Mayhem." For the uninitiated, PBR is the latest trend in order to enhance photorealism in game rendering. The technique can be used for video games to appear cartoony, stylized, or to create a surreal effect.
Taylor's session, "'Agents of Mayhem': Physically-Based Materials in a Stylized Open-World," will involve a discussion on how "Agents of Mayhem" is considered one of the video games to use the PBR technique. The programmer will also talk about the methods used to balance a full physically based pipeline in a unique and highly artistic illustrative style.
The session will open doors to the upcoming game's developmental aspect, as various topics will be covered. "Agents of Mayhem" fans will be educated on how color choice is important, as well as shader techniques, memory management of the innovative additions, and the significance of documentation in order to preserve the game's multifaceted aesthetics.
Meanwhile, the release date for "Agents of Mayhem" is still a vague 2017. While no specific date is out yet, Deep Silver Volition fans might as well register for the Game Developers Conference to be held at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. GDC 2017 is scheduled February 27th to March 3rd.
"Agents of Mayhem" will be available next year for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. More gameplay details will be posted soon!
