In celebration of Mother's Day, The Behemoth has unleashed a new prisoner in its popular Xbox Live Arcade title Battleblock Theater. The character's name is Rose, and she's designed appropriately with a skewed design of rose petals for her head.
From now until Thursday, May 16, Battleblock Theater players that login to the full version of the game on Xbox Live will receive Rose as a free update. After that point, Rose will no longer be available for unlocking and eventual collection, and there's no word on if or when she'll ever be released again.
"This Sunday we celebrate the hard work of mamas everywhere-baby mamas, sugar mamas, soccer mamas, etc," says the official Behemoth blog. "And what better way to celebrate than to let a new prisoner out of their cage, just like mama did when we were good."
Battleblock Theater was released in April of 2013. The game follows the player character through a series of challenges on an island filled with evil cats. Prisoners are being forced to perform in deadly theater performances for the amusement of the cats, challenging players to complete the performances set in front of them to escape.
Rose isn't the first limited edition (or otherwise special) prisoner to be released in Battleblock Theater. Previously, players could unlock Toast, Donuts, Winston, the Behemoth Chicken, and Furbottom for completing specific in-game levels or just logging into the game during promotional time periods. Other characters are available to players that have played other Behemoth titles, like Castle Crashers and Alien Hominid HD. There are currently 256 prisoners available for freeing and collection, outside of the limited edition and special characters.
Battleblock Theater's single player levels, co-op and multiplayer arena modes can be downloaded on Xbox Live Arcade for 1,200 Microsoft Points, or $15.
