Naughty Dog's hotly anticipated PlayStation 3 title The Last of Us is set to launch on Sony's console later this year, and in anticipation of the launch, Sony and Naughty Dog have released a new TV commercial advertising the game's upcoming release.
The game's first TV spot was released last April, so fans have been waiting quite a while to see more of the game's two heroes, Joel and Ellie. In this second TV trailer, which started airing on May 10, players are given a glimpse into the life of surviving in the world's now mostly abandoned wastelands.
Life hasn't been kind to Ellie and Joel. Forced to battle Earth's remaining survivors (an infected race that's only barely human), Ellie has lost everything resembling a childhood and is now wise beyond her years. Joel feels responsible for both Ellie's safety as well as his own, and must teach Ellie that survival at all costs means losing the morals she may have once held dear.
Sony and Naughty Dog describe The Last of Us as a "genre-defining experience blending survival and action elements to tell a character driven story about a population decimated by a modern plague. Cities are abandoned and being reclaimed by nature. Remaining survivors are killing each other for food, weapons and whatever they can find."
Using unconventional weapons as well as found guns and ammunition, The Last of Us challenges players to help Joel and Ellie survive while scrounging for food and other useful necessities that may have been left behind by those that came before. All the while, players are given the option to stealthily navigate enemy-filled corridors or risk it all in a quick flash of action.
The Last of Us is set to launch exclusively on PlayStation 3 on June 14, 2013.
