News of an upcoming "How To Train Your Dragon 3" quickly spread like wildfire as fans eagerly anticipated Hiccup and Toothless' return to the big screen. Part of the charm of the franchise, of course, was the lovable pair's inseparability and unbreakable bonds of friendship, which gave way to a whole new meaning of having pets.
However, will the third installment to this series find Hiccup and Toothless separated? Here's the rundown of everything to know about "How to Train Your Dragon 3" spoilers, leaks, rumors, release dates, and more.
Spoilers for 'How To Train Your Dragon 3'
Like the films before it, "How to Train Your Dragon 3" will be based on the novels by Cressida Cowell. However, director Dan DeBlois seems to be hinting at Hiccup and Toothless' eventual separation, according to MoviePilot.
As fans would recall from "How To Train Your Dragon 2," both Hiccup and Toothless ascending to chiefs of their respective tribes, following the death of Hiccup's father and Toothless defeating the Bewilderbeast. It's precisely this development from which "How To Train Your Dragon 3" will take off, as both human and pet try to do what is right for their own kind.
In the novels, Hiccup and Toothless eventually part ways in "How To Fight A Dragon's Fury." There, humans and dragons finally live in peace, but the Vikings tribe has since domesticated dragons and horses instead to allow dragons to live according to their will. What should we expect in "How To Train Your Dragon 3"?
Emotional, tearjerker
Given this story arc in the novels, several reports are suggesting that Hiccup and Toothless may end up separating as well in "How To Train Your Dragon 3." This won't be the first time something threatened to pull them apart, however, as the Bewilderbeast previously controlled Toothless to go against his human. But their bond proved to be strong enough, and Hiccup was able to break the enchantment on Toothless before defeating Drago.
Will their friendship pull through in the sequel? "How To Train Your Dragon 3" returns to the theaters on 2018.
