Scarlet Johansson was a controversial choice for Masamuna Shirow's classic- the much loved anime and manga, Ghost in the Shell. Fans all over the world were expecting an Asian actress to portray The Major, a special-ops agent who is a cyborg. The production team was accused of white washing the movie but Steven Paul, the producer for Ghost in The Shell, told Buzzfeed that the fans will love their international approach to the filming.
The cast represents diffferent nationalitites like Japanese, Chinese, British, American among others. He also added that great respect was given to the original manga of Ghost in The Shell and that the whole team has been very careful with doing it great honor. They have all been very careful but, when you are making a movie, you have to bring your own imagination to the board. He assured that Scarlet johansson in Ghost in The Shell will not disappoint fans.
In the latest update and trailer of Ghost in The Shell, Scarlet Johansson is seen using the cloaking device. In the original anime for Ghost in The Shell, this was one of the iconic scenes. The team was obviously careful with how they did this so you can clearly see how she apprehends her opponent as she is wearing her cloaking device in a similar manner in the anime. She lands a strong punch to her opponent's chin and then sends the opponent flying to the air.
In other scenes similar to the anime, Ghost in the shell shows Scarlet Johansson disconnecting from her station. Through the visually stimulating trailer for Ghost in The Shell, Motoko Kusanagi who is the character of Scarlet Johansson, is asked by the others "What are you?" ; In another scene, with a pistol in hand, she walks up to a group of people who are hooked up with bundles of wires. In the background an ominous voice tells her - this is just the beginning.
