An amazing comeback could be in the cards for both the original Grand Theft Auto and Grand Theft Auto 2, as a brand new ESRB listing has revealed that both titles are set for release on PlayStation3, Vita and PSP.
While the U.S. ratings board gave Grand Theft Auto a "Mature" rating, GTA2 was labelled "Teen." The information was revealed on NeoGaf, and one of the thread commentators notes: “God yes. GTA2 is such an outstanding game that does a lot of mechanical and design things better than GTAIII did. No one remembers it though because of GTA III coming out and blowing up like it did though.”
“Here's hoping it's right about being Vita compatible. Would love to have this on the go.”
Moreover, since the information comes directly from the ESRB listing board, it is also likely that the listed games will be launched by Sony as digital downloads via the PlayStation Store (as part of the PSone Classics range).
The PlayStation Store, as of now, offers a number of other titles in the GTA franchise. PSN users have the option to buy PlayStation 2 hits Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories and Grand Theft Auto 3 for PlayStation 3.
PS3 players can also download Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City as a full game, alongside Grand Theft Auto 4. Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories and Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Stories, currently are also available on PS Vita and PSP.
Grand Theft Auto and Grand Theft Auto 2 originally launched in 1997 and 1999 respectively, and the latest addition to the series, Grand Theft Auto 5, is also set for a Sept. 17 release for PS3 and Xbox 360.
