2K Games’ latest first-person shooter Bioshock: Infinite has been a critical and commercial success since its release last month. The game’s first DLC is expected to arrive soon, although nothing has been confirmed as of now. According to a senior employee at 2K games, the DLC might feature a new AI companion.
The information about the DLC was revealed by Michael Shahan, senior animator at 2K Games, on his LinkedIn page. According to Shahan’s details on his page, he was the primary animation resource for the Bioshock: Infinite DLC.
Shahan provides animation planning and management for the project. The animator’s CV notes that he's been "providing animation and R&D for a new AI companion character" in Infinite.
Currently, Shahan has been credited for:
- Cataloging of existing Bioshock animation assets and custom UDK implementation
- Creating cinematic and in-game motion capture asset tracking docs
- Providing animation and R&D for a new AI companion character
- Managing outsource animation from the 2K Australia Studio
While the details have already been removed by Shahan from his page, there is massive speculation as to who this new character will be and his or her role in the title. Neither the title’s developer nor publisher has commented about this new AI character.
