Ever wonder how the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland came to be?
Wonder no more. Vintage Disney Parks (via Boing Boing) posted a clip from a documentary detailing the origins of the ride. The ride was originally intended to be a wax museum of great moments in pirate history. It was to be part of New Orleans Square, an area of shops selling souvenirs like golden pirate ships. There's lots of footage of Walt Disney himself talking about how the ride works and how he wants it to function. The whole seven-minute clip is worth watching.
Without the Pirates of the Caribbean Disney ride there would be no movie franchise of the same name starring Johnny Depp or Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean Online game.
