Fans can relax now--or can they? ABC's "Scandal" Season 6 is definitely returning to the small screen, despite rumors to the contrary after it missed its traditional fall schedule. With this news comes an explosive new trailer regarding the election results. Who won the presidency? Here's everything you need to know about the upcoming sixth season of "Scandal": storylines, spoilers, rumors, release dates, and more.
Release date: When will 'Scandal' return?
ABC recently announced that "Scandal" Season 6 will be returning Jan. 19, 2017 in its usual slot in the #ThankGodItsThursday lineup alongside "Grey's Anatomy" and "How to Get Away With Murder." The show focuses on crisis specialist Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) as she and her associates are tasked to take care of political scandals regardless of the means.
"Scandal" Season 6 will be picking up from the events of last season. Mellie Grant (Bellamy Young) and Jake Ballard (Scott Foley) are running under the Republican ticket, against Democrats Frankie Vargas (Ricardo Chavira) and Cyrus Beene (Jeff Perry). The sixth season will jump right into Election Night, so fans will immediately know who the next President of the United States will be.
What to expect from 'Scandal' Season 6
It was previously reported that Liv and President Fitz Grant are working together to ensure Mellie and Jake win the White House in "Scandal" Season 6. Cyrus Beene is a dangerous fellow, and it is in their best interest to make sure he never gets one step closer to the Presidency.
From the "Scandal" Season 6 trailer, however, it seems as if Mellie is having second thoughts about running for President. Liv also seems to falter in her resolve that Mellie will win the presidency, as Fitz angrily asks her, "What if you're wrong?"
There is also a shot of an exploding cabin in the woods. Will a key character in "Scandal" Season 6 turn out to be dead? Find out soon when the Shonda Rhimes drama returns on ABC next year.
