'American Gigolo' Release Date, News & Update: Richard Gere Film Will Have A TV Adaptation Set At Showtime From Paramount TV With Jerry Bruckheimer

Paramount TV together with Jerry Bruckheimer will collaborate for the 1980's film TV adaptation of "American Gigolo" that stars Richard Gere. "American Gigolo" is a story of Julian Kaye (Richard Gere), a male escort in the glossy city of Los Angeles that enjoys the lavish lifestyle of the city until meeting the politician's wife (Lauren Hutton) in a murder case.

According to TVLine, Neil LaBute is said to write the show and will be set in the present day Los Angeles City. Jerry Bruckheimer himself and Jonathan Littman of the Jerry Bruckheimer TV will be executive producers for "American Gigolo" reboot.

The news outlet further reports that "American Gigolo" was the film that put Richard Gere's career on a new level. "American Gigolo" also features Gere showing a full-frontal male nudity scene, but the odds of it ever being featured in the TV adaptation will be slim.

Meanwhile, KristieAnne Reed is involved in the project and will be a co-executive producer with James Oh as producer as well. Paul Schrader, the original "American Gigolo" writer-director will serve an executive consultant for the TV adaptation.

"American Gigolo" is one of many TV series based on movie titles that Paramount TV has worked on in multiple networks. Movies titles such as NBC's "The Italian Job" and HBO's "Shutter Island" with Martin Scorsese are in line with "American Gigolo" as Deadline reports.

Yahoo! reports that Paramount TV also has a line of side projects in various TV series such as Amazon's "Jack Ryan", "Maniac" starring Jonah Hill and Emma Stone and "Thirteen Reasons Why" at Netflix, "Shooter" at USA Network and more.
