The next Apple smartphone, widely known as iPhone 5S, may feature a 12-megapixel camera as well as an improved night shooting mode, according to a report from Vietnamese blog Tinhte.vn (via MacRumors). The blog says the next-generation iPhone could pack an extra 4 megapixels in its camera, which will be capable of producing high dynamic range images and better night time photos. The rumor originates from Wonderful Saigon Electrics in Binh Duong, which specializes in providing camera modules for the iPhone.
"The iPhone 5 features the same 8-megapixel rear camera with an f2.4 aperture that was introduced with the iPhone 4S, but it has a sapphire crystal for improved clarity. A further improvement to 12-megapixels with a lower aperture to improve low light photography does not sound out of the realm of possibility," says Mac Rumors.
It should be noted that Apple's previous 'S' phone release, the iPhone 4S, too came with a camera improvement as it featured an 8-megapixel rear camera, which was a significant upgrade from iPhone 4's 5-megapixels camera.
Meanwhile, The Wall Street Journal (via Computerworld) reports that Apple's primary manufacturing partner Foxconn is recruiting thousands of new workers indicating that the company is preparing to enter production of the new iPhone. "The Taiwanese company said Monday it has added about 10,000 assembly-line workers a week in Zhengzhou, its major production facility for iPhones, since the last week of March," the WSJ reports.
This report is a clear contradiction to two earlier reports which speculated that Apple will begin iPhone production in the current quarter while a second one claimed a delay in production due to certain "production difficulties."
Recent iPhone 5S reports also had it that the device will come in multiple colors and in two or three different screen sizes.
