People are comparing the Microsoft Surface Studio and Apple MacBook Pro. The two companies recently held their own press events to showcase their latest respective desktop computer.

Microsoft Surface Studio: On the surface

Fast Company reported that Microsoft showcased the new Surface Studio, which has a 28-inch touchscreen that can lower to a drawing-board position on the desktop. Users will generally rely on the Surface Pen to work on the Microsoft Surface Studio.

The Surface Pen is supported by the new Dial rotary input approach, which can adjust different settings like modes, stroke thickness and colors. The Dial on the Microsoft Surface Studio can be positioned right on the touchscreen, with the OS and app creating fashion menus around it.

Apple MacBook Pro: Get in touch

As for Apple, the new MacBook Pro features a 13-inch screen and a new innovative Touch Bar, which is an OLED touch screen strip above the keyboard. The Touch Bar will present relevant shortcuts and content suggestions, based on the app currently in use.

Apple noted that it is trying to entice third-party app developers to add Touch Bar support for their apps on the MacBook Pro. The new Apple MacBook Pro also features bigger touch pads, thinner designs, individually lighted keys and faster processors.

Trusted Reviews stated that the basic Microsoft Surface Studio is powered by an Intel Core i5 Processor, 8 GB of RAM and a 1TB hard drive. The most expensive unit has a quad-core Intel Core i7 processor, 32GB of DDR4 RAM, 2TB of hybrid drive and an Nvidia GTX980M GPU. The Apple MacBook Pro is powered by a 2.9GHz dual-core Intel Core i5, 512GB of hard drive space, 8GB of RAM and an Intel Iris Graphics 550 GPU.

The Microsoft Surface Studio will apparently cater to illustrators, architects and designers, while the Apple MacBook Pro will be geared towards regular users. The Apple MacBook Pro is said to release ahead of the Microsoft Surface Studio.

The Dial of the Microsoft Surface Studio features a physical tactile interface to support functions that are usually done on a touchscreen. The Dial provides an analog feel to digital functions, thereby making these more convenient.

The Touch Bar of the Apple MacBook Pro provides a digital touch screen interface where physical tactile analog function keys were originally situated. The Microsoft Surface Studio is priced from $3,000 to $4,200, while the Apple MacBook Pro costs $1,800 to $2,400.
