PlayStation 4 Controller: Three Things You Might Have Missed [OPINION]

One of the most exciting things about Sony's upcoming PlayStation 4 is the improved controller. Known as the DualShock 4, the controller is basically the same shape as the PS3's controller, but with new features and improvements.

Here are three things you may have missed about the DualShock 4.

The Controller Knows Your Position: The DualShock 4 is not only smart, but it makes smart look below average, and is the future of gaming. The controller can detect your position using a light sensor on the top of it. The screen will position itself accordingly as you move around. This could be useful while playing split-screen co-op, for example.

The light sensor also has the ability to provide feedback from the game. You could be pinned down by enemy fire and about to die and the light sensor will remind you about your falling health.

Of course, it's up to the developers to make the most of the new features and not let it fall to the wayside like the sixaxis controller did on the PS3.

Rumble: Sony was forced to add rumble back into controllers for PS3 after facing an outcry from gamers who were outraged the original controllers didn't come with the feature. The company seems to have learned its lesson and the DualShock 4 will be supporting rumble from the start.

The controller will also sport two analogue motors, compared to the single analogue motor and a smaller digital one in DualShock 3. We'll have to see what developers do with this increased level of control.

Better Battery Charging: The DualShock 4 can now charge even when the PS4 is off, a change from the PS3 which needed to be on in order to charge the controller.
