‘Grid 2’ Set To Introduce RaceNet, Multiplayer Modes And More

“Grid 2,” from developer Codemasters, will focus on the game’s multiplayer modes, including the new RaceNet feature and other competitive racing modes, according to game's site.

The new multiplayer mode will feature a completely separate progress mode from the career mode. Racers will be able to play online with up to 12 players, in either custom races or pre-defined playlists.

Customization and upgrades are also getting a major overhaul.

One of the upcoming features of the game is RaceNet, a free online browser-based extension which aims to track the player’s races, rivals and rewards, similar to "Need For Speed's" autolog.

RaceNet will not only keep a check on the player’s progress inside the game, but also provide players with new objectives, rivals and rewards for progress.

“Players can also track community stats, leaderboards and participate in weekly Global Challenge events. RaceNet can be accessed on player’s desktop, tablet or mobile device and will have dedicated apps set to release around launch,” the company writes.

Here’s a complete list of what’s new in “Grid 2”:

  • Up to 12 player online racing
  • 2 player split-screen racing
  • Ability to play up to 10 different events including LiveRoutes
  • Full integration with RaceNet including planned dedicated apps
  • A separate multiplayer game featuring deep progression – the ability to unlock new cars and modifications earning cash and XP
  • Always someone present to compete against with “Grid 2” Rivals
  • Grid 2 always on the go with RaceNet apps set for release around launch
  • Customizable and modify options for vehicles
  • Anti-griefing technology ensuring fair racing
  • Ability to upload highlights to YouTube

“Grid 2” is set for a May 31 release for Xbox 360, PC and PS3.
