"Deadpool 2" is about to have a new man to take the helms. Famous for his directing and stunt chops in the "John Wick" movies, David Leitch has been named as the frontrunner to direct "Deadpool 2". Turns out, after Tim Miller resigned from directing the film -- due to creative differences with Ryan Reynolds -- Leitch's name was at the top of the list on who could direct the sequel.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Deadpool 2" lead star Ryan Reynolds met up with the "John Wick" director last Thursday in New York. Leitch was also the action coordinator on "X-Men Origins: Wolverine", where Reynolds was first seen as Wade Wilson aka Deadpool.
Aside from the possible "Deadpool 2" directorial job, David Leitch is also set to direct "Cowboy Ninja Viking" starring Chris Pratt, as well as an adaptation of "Valiant's Bloodshot". The A.V. Club shared that he was also supposed to share directing duties on "John Wick: Chapter 2" with Chad Stahelski, but left the film for Charlize Theron's "The Coldest City" earlier this year.
David Leitch was not credited during his directing work in the first "John Wick" movie. The director is also a part of a stunt company known as 87eleven, that worked as the second unit directors of "Ninja Assasin" and "Captain America: Civil War". So far, Leitch has not been officially offered to direct "Deadpool 2".
However, 20th Century Fox is still meeting with other potential candidates who would possibly direct "Deadpool 2". Among the names being considered include Netflix's "Luke Cage" director, Magnus Marten, and "The Martian" director, Drew Goddard. There is also an online petition to bring "Pulp Fiction" director, Quentin Tarantino, to direct "Deadpool 2".
"Deadpool 2" is currently in production, so the amicable differences between Rayan Reynolds and Tim Miller came to a surprise. The first "Deadpool" movie was the directorial debut of Miller.
Reports by IGN said that Tim Miller had more of a stylish version of "Deadpool 2" that would cost three times more than its original budget. Reynolds and Miller also disagreed over the casting of Cable, in which Miller favored "Friday Night Lights" star Kyle Chandler.
"Deadpool 2" is initially set to be released on January 12, 2018. Stay tune to GamenGuide for more latest scoop about "Deadpool 2".
