"Ni no Kuni" developer Level 5 is in the process of making a game for the PlayStation 4. The confirmation comes from the company's CEO and President Akihiro Hino who says that an official announcement regarding this can be expected soon.
"It's still in the planning stages, but we are also working on a PlayStation 4 title. We might be able to announce it soon," Hino says in an interview with Nikkei Trendy (translated by Gematsu).
Level-5, the creator of the successful PS3-exclusive JRPG "Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch," was one of the third-party developers signed up for PlayStation 4 development. The Japanese developer has many popular titles in its credit including the Dark Cloud series, "Dragon Quest VIII," "Rogue Galaxy" and the Professor Layton franchise. The super-hit "Ni No Kuni" was made in collaboration with the legendary animated film company Studio Ghibli.
Sharing his thoughts on Sony's latest gaming console, Hino says,"PlayStation 4 is next-gen hardware built with the network in mind, so more than graphics performance and specs, we need to think about communication - how to use the network features."
Hino says the PlayStation Vita's new price point (19,800 yen) is great; however, he feels that just slashing the price will not lead to it spreading. "You also have to simultaneously release strategic titles. I think there is a huge amount of anticipation around what those titles will be."
It should be noted that most of Level 5's recent games were for handhelds and mobile devices and it's great to see the studio is venturing into PS4 games so early on in the console's life cycle. However, it's not quite clear at this point in time if the title would be a new White Knight Chronicles or something completely new.
