The Facebook Home may have got an official announcement, but we have yet to see it running on an Android device. However, there is now a brand new leak that shows off the feature on a live Android handset.
The latest leak is a pre-release version of Facebook Home and was leaked ahead of the planned April 12 Google Play Store release date, which, apparently, is also the release date for the HTC First Facebook phone.
The build, which was pulled from a pre-release HTC First ROM is quite buggy and incomplete. The writes states that he is unable to get the new ‘Chat Heads’ feature to work properly. However, this is a glimpse of the Home long before the scheduled arrival date.
To use the leak, as the report states, “you need an Android device with a maximum resolution of 1280x768 and the ability to completely uninstall your existing Facebook app.” This is important because the leaked APKs are re-signed and cannot be installed over the top of an existing installation.
Once that is done, it will automatically exclude some devices which have Facebook installed in the base ROM.
While an update to the story states that the source link to ROM has stopped working with the screen of the Home turning black, those looking to experiment will need to install all the three files – the main app, the messenger app, and the launcher – to get everything in place. Of course, as with any unoffical software, use at your own risk.
