Nintendo recently released their third quarter earnings report, along with it is a calendar of expected game releases. The game Project Giant Robot is one of the only two to come to the Wii U but a specific date is yet to be designated. With the title first making an appearance way back in E3 2014, the hype has already subsided.
Despite making it on the list of games to be released for 2017, there isn't much information surrounding Project Giant Robot. There is no announcement pertaining to details on gameplay and content. Fans of the Wii U platform are limited to the first and only demo that was made and showcased back in E3 2014.
Project Giant Robot is a multiplayer robot fighter that has the goal of pushing other robots down in order to prevent having the same fate, as described by Polygon. The main monitor would show an aerial view of the battlefield while the Wii U controller screen would display a first-person view of the robot. It was a seemingly straightforward concept and mechanic, however, it was still a demo version back then, a game that was still in development and had minimal content.
According to IGN, earlier this year, the designer told Time that Project Giant robot came only as a secondary project and it never originally was planned into a full game. The new decision might have been brought by the lackluster software on the Wii U platform. Also, Nintendo sales haven't experienced much of an increase in the past years, forcing them to take extra measures.
"The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" is the other title coming along with Project Giant Robot for the year 2017, with the game having a much bigger community and fan base, it is likely to come earlier as opposed to Project Giant Robot. Also, with work going on the new platform, Nintendo Switch, fans are skeptical that after three years of delay and silence, it has suddenly become the priority of the company.
