The stage is set. Game 1 of the 2016 World Series is in the books. The Cleveland Indians is now just 3 wins away from winning their first title since 1948 while the Cubs will have to bounce back and get to four wins before the Indians do for their first since 1908, back when the television wasn't invented yet.
Between the two teams, there is a total of 176 years worth of title drought - 108 for the Cubs and 68 for the Indians. The last time the Cubs made a World Series appearance was in 1945 while the Indians last made an appearance in 1997.
Cubs' fans believe that several curses are to blame why their team is not winning or at least made an appearance in, a World Series title. Since their World Series appearance in 1945, they have to deal with the "Curse of the Billy Goat", the "Curse of the Black Cat", the "Curse of the Gatorade Glove" and the "Curse of Steve Bartman".
Indians fans don't have as many curses but they do have one: the "Curse of Rocky Colavito". Colavito was the home run champ of the MLB back in 1960. The Indian's organization traded him to the Detroit Tigers and outraged their fans. Some fans believed the "Curse of Colavito" is responsible for the team's title drought but more believe than it doesn't really have that great of an effect on the team's performance.
If the Cubs win the series, they will break the longest title drought in American pro sports history. If the Indians win, it will make Eddie Robinson a very happy man.
Robinson is the last living member of the 1948 Indians. He was the first baseman and the cleanup hitter of that team and he's been waiting for the Indians to win another title since. "68 years. That's how I long I have been pulling for them to do it again," said Robinson.
