"The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 showrunner Julie Plec is in talks with Nina Dobrev about reprising her role as Elena Gilbert in the final season of the hit TV series. Plec has spoken with Dobrev and they are 100 percent on board with being part of the finale.
However Dobrev's schedule might have conflicts in shooting an episode for "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8. Julie Plec also made sure that they will keep the essence of Elena alive on the show.
"The Vampire Diaries" Season 7 ended with Stefan, Bonnie and Caroline writing in a diary for Elena to read after she wakes up from the sleeping curse. They wrote that both Damon and Enzo vanished for the vault and spent months searching for them.
Julie Plec shared to TV Line that in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8, fans will get hints and teases of Elena's face all throughout the season. Damon's memories of her will play a big part of "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8. Plec also pointed out that being able to see Nina Dobrev's character brings so much emotion, nostalgia and sweetness.
There will also be a possible crossover in "The Vampire Season" 8 with "The Originals". According to Entertainment Tonight, Julie Plec commented that it is one of her goals to find exciting and organic ways to combine both shows.
Plec still wants to continue working with some of the cast members of "The Vampire Diaries" and that they could find ways to integrate them into "The Originals". "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 premiere included one of Damon's memories of standing in the middle for the road with Elena.
However, a new character was introduced during the trailer of the second episode of "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8. The new character's name is Sybil and she intrudes the memory of Elena in Damon's mind. Sybil will be the latest villain for "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8.
