"Law & Order SVU" Season 18 had its successful premiere on September 28 on the NBC network with 7.8 million viewers. It has been said that, Hargitay and the casts' outstanding performance of the show can make or unmake the series renewal for season 19.
Rick Eid replaced Warren Leight as showrunner of "Law & Order SVU" Season 18. The veteran Lt. Benson will be leading as the "top notch" head of the unit. While still being challenged by past conflict with Chief Dodds (Peter Gallagher), she has to be on top of the SVU's crime solving adventures.
According to Hargitay in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, "Law & Order SVU" Season 18 will unravel the tensions and dynamics within the unit. Benson and Dodds' relationship is affected by the death of Mike Dodds. As a result, Benson will try so hard to keep and protect the team from harm.

It was reported in Gamenguide that "Law & Order SVU" Season 18 will have Benson to tackle a rape case. It was a great advantage for the show to have US Vice President Joe Biden as himself on the episode "Making A Rapist" on September 28.

According to Releasedatetv, the NBC network has not yet made any move on the renewal or cancellation of the show for season 19. However, there are already a great number of questions asked by the million fans as to the date of release of the next season.
"Law & Order SVU" Season 18 will be showing with a total of 8 episodes until November 2. On October 26, episode 5 titled "Rape Interrupted" will be shown on the usual time slot at 9 P.M.
