We know about plenty of Playstation 4 games. The PS4 reveal event in February gave us the next in the Sucker Punch "Infamous" franchise, Jonathan Blow's "The Witness," some bloated racing title called "Drive Club" and a kooky little platformer called "Knack" everyone is going to forget about in a month. But those aren't the big Sony franchises that a proper console launch needs, and while it's tough to hope for a strong release, one of the following games is bound to make an appearance come this year's E3. At least one, right?
"Gran Turismo 6"
Speaking of bloated racing simulators, "Gran Turismo 6" is somewhere in production at Polyphony Digital. I'm not sure Sony lets them out of their offices until they've properly detailed every virtual car they've ever built. "Gran Turismo" is the only thing those poor souls know, it's their livelihood. "Gran Turismo 6" is coming, and it's going to try to convince you that real life is actually somewhere in a TV.
"The Last Guardian"
We know about this game, sure, but c'mon, we don't really know about it. Constant delays and rare gameplay footage have made Team Ico's latest more mysterious than their previous titles, if that's even possible. "Ico" and "Shadow of the Colossus" were the Playstation 2's huge art-house hits for Sony, and in skipping the Playstation 3, which they're bound to do at this point, Team Ico is looking to establish the Playstaiton 4 as a callback to the gamer-love we all felt in the PS2 era. With "The Last Guarding," Sony is telling us "we're past all that PS3 nonsense now; PS4 is the future. Just look, its a little kid riding a giant griffin-dog thing. What could be more promising than that?"
"Little Big Planet 3"
With a newfound emphasis on sharing and connecting with the PS4, Sony is setting themselves up for the ultimate, definitive "Little Big Planet" in the franchise. Sharing levels and scenarios had always been contained within the game, but with that nifty "Share" button mapped onto the PS4 controller, showing off your creations is going to be easier and more streamlined than ever. What better platform to use to make that "Share" button popular than the never-ending creativity of "Little Big Planet 3?" There is none.
"Uncharted 4"
Naughty Dog is using the final days of the PS3 to test a new IP, "The Last of Us," but we all know it's the "Uncharted" franchise Sony wants from them come the PS4 launch. and Sony is going to get it because Sony gets what it wants. Most of the time. Nathan Drake will be back for a new adventure, his set-pieces will be more overwhelming beautiful and tense than ever and his glorious back talk will resonate in an all new gaming age.
"Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale 2"
This one is more of a hope than a sure thing, seeing as how Sony shuttered "Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale" developer SuperBot Entertainment after weak sales, but give it time. It'll come back if the PS4 is a resounding success and Sony's got money to spare. SuperBot put out a flawed but fun game and they're learning from their mistakes with every new patch and DLC characters. Hopefully with a blank slate to recreate the franchise, "Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale 2" can be the "Super Smash Bros." killer Sony wanted it to be. Just make sure to put Spyro and Crash in it next time.
