Perhaps in preparation for a long weekend of gaming, or perhaps in response to some map-anemia backlash, Microsoft just put out two free pieces of DLC for its two top-tier franchises.
First up is "Halo 4's" "Forge Island" map, granting players an open canvas on the sea for its more creative fans. You could also put it this way, if you're into that "Halo" lore stuff:
"Referred to as the 'Great Anvils' by UNSC personnel deployed to the southwestern peninsula of Requiem's smallest continent, these massive sentinels tower high above the shield world's warm tropical ocean. The geologic data acquired from these islands has offered incredible fodder for Infinity Science's Forge group, providing diverse and modifiable terrain for the War Games combat simulations," reads the official page on the Xbox Live Marketplace. Yeah, it sounds much cooler that way.
And then there's "Gears of War: Judgment's" free map, which comes alongside Execution mode, which existed in previous "Gears" installments and requires the player to get close up and execute players for the kill in competitive multiplayer.
The new "Haven" map is "free for a limited time," and is presented to you by Maxim. So there's that. "Haven" is the fifth map for normal competitive play, while the game has four other maps for the new Overrun and Survival modes. Players must download the patch also released today to use the new map and Execution mode.
