Jane Villanueva (Gina Rodriguez) didn't really get the happy ending she always wanted. "Jane the Virgin" Season 3 opened up with Michael (Brett Dier) in the hospital and under a coma following a shooting that shocked viewers at the end of the previous season. Although Michael survived his surgery, his life is still in danger.
Series creator Jennie Urman recently revealed in an interview with TVLine that fans will still see Michael in a bad state in "Jane the Virgin" Season 3. "The healing and recovery from such a traumatic event is something we continue to play [with]," Urman said. What happened to Michael will also have a lasting impact on his life as it remains to be seen if he can still report back to work. What's certain is that Michael's tragedy will take him "in a new direction."
There had been fears that Michael will not live long and Jane will be left all heartbroken in "Jane the Virgin" Season 3, giving a chance to the Jane and Rafael (Justin Baldoni) shipping. But it turns out that Michael will be around for a while and will even move in with Jane and her parents, according to Urman. "I liked the idea of a newlywed having to live with her mom and grandma. Their relationship doesn't have the traditional newlywed takeoff," the show creator said.
Jane and Rafael shippers will have to stop raising the banner to cheer for their favorite tandem as "Jane the Virgin" Season 3 will say goodbye to the love triangle. Jane is already Married and it was a choice she made wholeheartedly. Urman also revealed in the same interview that she's "sick" of having a love triangle in the series.
As Rodriguez previously revealed in an interview, "Jane the Virgin" Season 3 will deal with even more serious issues in life that will force Jane to become more mature. "The writers are going to great lengths to have Jane grow up. There's growing pains," the actress told AOL. Catch more of the drama in "Jane the Virgin" Season 3, Mondays at 9 p.m. ET on The CW
