"Stranger Things", the Netflix original nostalgia driven thriller series about a group of kids living in the 80s, created a major buzz ever since its first trailer debuted.
Many binged watched the series and got caught up with the terrifying story of a telekinetic girl, a monster and other otherworldly creatures unleashed in her small town. Soon, greater mystery was if the sci-fi series would get the nod from Netflix for "Stranger Things" Season 2.
Last August, the streaming giant made it official that "Stranger Things" will get its sophomore season, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It really did not come much of a surprise with all the acclaim that the series has been getting and its young cast becoming stars overnight. For the forthcoming season, some details have already come out.
First is that most of the "Stranger Things" first season cast are expected to be back. But, some new characters will be added in the new season. Among them is Sadie Sink who will be playing a girl named Max. The character is described as a tough and confident girl who appears and behaves more like a boy than a girl of the 80's era. She will likely be prominently featured in the "Stranger Things" Season 2 premiere expected to be titled "Madmax".
Another addition to the cast will be Dacre Montgomery who will play the very muscular and over confident older brother of Max named Billy. Underneath his charisma is said to be a violent and unpredictable nature. TV Web reports that two characters are elevated to series regulars when "Stranger Things" returns. These are Joe Kerry who played Steve Harrington and Noah Schnapp, the actor who played the missing boy Will Byers.
With the series going into a second season, the creative team would have to speed things up since the show's young cast members will definitely not look the same for long. EP Matt Duffer, in a press event in July acknowledged the challenge for the continuity of a show like "Stranger Things".
Duffer explained that there might not be any choice but to resort to a time jump. Gaten Matarazzo who plays Dustin in "Stranger Things", for one, has his voice already dropped since last year. It changed to a point where they could not even do an automated dialogue replacement with him anymore. He has grown up so much that even if the new season was intended to kick off on the Christmas right after, it will not just be feasible.
The solution was for the show to skip a year so all the changes that the young actors have gone through will all be taken into account and everything will be worked into the show. And besides, the time jump will open more storyline possibilities for "Stranger Things" Season 2.
