Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean is coming to Verizon's Galaxy Nexus and Verizon is rolling it out now.
In a release, the carrier says that the software will be pushed to Verizon Wireless customers in phases starting March 19. The Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean has the JDQ39 firmware and users should receive the Over-The-Air (OTA) Update notification at any moment. All users may not get the update immediately as the rollout happens in phases.
"The software includes new camera features such as photosphere to take 360 degree panoramic pictures that can easily be shared with friends. The camera app also has new tools to add filters and borders, further customizing pictures," Verizon says. The new gesture keyboard update enables Swype-like typing, which allows users to slide their finger from letter to letter to type a word.
Other features coming with the latest update include allowing users to place widgets on the lock screen for easier access to apps such as Calendar, Gmail and Clock. The update also brings an improvement to Google Now which will now offer better traffic info, accurate weather details, sports info and more.
The smartphone released as the first Android device to run version 4.0 of Ice Cream Sandwich; however, updates have been slow. Google announced the 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update back in October and the rollout began in November. However, it took nearly five months for Verizon to bring the update to their Galaxy Nexus devices. It should be noted that Sprint announced the 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update for its Galaxy Nexus nearly two months ago.
