"Mafia III" is one of the most critically received games to have recently surfaced. That being said, some of those who have laid their hands on the game have spoken on what makes it quite the exceptional title-tackling both the good and the not-so features it contains.
The Hangar 13 and 2K Games title "Mafia III" was launched back on October 7, showcasing a reminiscent 60's representation of a fictional United States. Specifically named New Bordeaux, the plot revolves around the makings of a mixed-race soldier named Lincoln Clay, dealing with the troubles of the community he recently returned to.
As per CBC, players of "Mafia III" may now know that one of the controversially appointed factors of the game includes the painful racial remarks made to Clay all throughout. Being a black soldier who just got back from Vietnam and experienced a double-cross from a bank heist, Clay aims to take cold, sweet revenge on crime boss Sal Marcano. This is after the gunshot to the head which Clay barely survived from, though his family did not share the same fortunate fate.
Fans can justify that the open-world game has seemingly capitalized on the emotional aspect of racial discrepancies, which is a formula that sees stereotypical criticism essential for realism in "Mafia III." As per Tanya De Pass, director and founder of I Need Diverse Games, the burden of such issue comes as quite the weight within the 60's era.
IGN noted that some underbosses and lieutenants in "Mafia III" are valuable in many aspects especially with utilizing the privileges they have to earn upgrades and further progress in the story. Cassandra, Vito Scaletta and Thomas Burke will prove to be beneficial along the way.
"Mafia III" is one of the open world games that many have appraised even before being released. That being said, players who are yet to feel the immense experience of the title are urged to check out the emotionally challenging ties that it has to offer.
