Deadline reports that the idea behind the virtual reality experience, aside from marketing the upcoming "Fifty Shades Darker" film, is to open up the film to both the actors and directors. Director James Foley explained that the virtual reality experience was created by having VR people "re-create a facsimile of the scene" that they just shot.
This is, in a way, a step forward for filmmakers who believe that the next level for the film is indeed virtual reality. Foley shares the same sentiments, as he admitted that seeing the virtual reality experience footage has helped him open up his mind. He even calls it an "extension of the visual language."
