"Rayman Jungle Run" releases on the Windows 8 platform on Friday, furthering Ubisoft's ongoing effort to show up on every gaming platform ever conceived. This is the first of their games to find its way onto the Windows 8 Store, which is a supplement to traditional PC gaming for your average hobbyist gamer.
Windows 8 and RT users can grab the 50-levels worth of auto-running gameplay for $2.99, though much like the rest of the Windows 8 population, "Rayman Jungle Run" features an optional demo through the "Try" button. The game comes with Xbox Live support, achievements included.
Though Windows 8 and RT users can happily bounce their way through Rayman's luscious, visually compelling world, Windows Phone users are still waiting despite the game being announced for the platform early February, Windows Phone Central reports.
Other massive, mobile-happy publishers such as EA or Sega haven't quite found their way to the Windows Store, although EA puts many of its biggest franchises on IOS, such as "Need for Speed" or the infallible "Bejewled." Apple's iOS still remains a top priority for most mobile publishers because that's where the game buyers are.
"Rayman Jungle Run" is a spinoff of a successful reboot series started in 2011 with "Rayman: Origins." Games in the series feature highly stylized visuals and super tight platforming. The series' first true sequel, "Rayman: Legends," was delayed from a February release to a holiday release 2013 as Ubisoft transitions the game from a Wii U exclusive to multiplatform title. Players can expect it on Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii U then.
