Square Enix admits that releasing a PC version of "Final Fantasy XV" may not happen soon because pivoting from console is labor extensive. Director Hajime Tabata said that announcement for release in Nov 29th this year is limited to Xbox and PlayStation while PC is unsure.
Tabata narrates that "Final Fantasy XV" PC version should start with adapting from console-based engine. This initial step alone will probably take about a year to materialize. Then there will be other equally demanding tasks to be completed. In total, time needed to finish a high-quality PC game could escalate to conservative estimate of 2 years.
According to PC Gamer, "Final Fantasy XV" PC version rumors started in April when Tabata taunts the idea of more sophisticated FFXV derivative. He also boasts that when things finally take shape, there will be additional contents and features unique for PC. In fact, Tabata stated that research should be done to study what tech should be employed. However, fast forward to October and the tune changed to uncertainty.
Since "Final Fantasy XV" PC idea is something unsafe to thread for now, how about VR? This idea is more tangible and at least likely to happen sooner, WCCF Tech said. After all, rumors circulate that there will be VR-specific DLC soon. Further, PlayStation VR is just few days before release and Square Enix can capitalize on the timing.
To recall, "Final Fantasy XV" has history of constant development so VR is not impossible. FFXV was originally slated for PlayStation 4 but caught up to support Xbox One S and PlayStation 4 Pro during launch. Gamers argue that if Square Enix decided to synchronize their prized title to current console development, then they could do so with PlayStation VR.
Meanwhile, due to large demand of "Final Fantasy XV," the limited 30,000 units of FFXV Ultimate Collector's Edition was reported sold-out at preorder. Square Enix suspects there are scalpers trying sell at higher price. Now for the benefit of gamers aiming for Ultimate, watch against these scalpers because the retail price should be $269.99 only.
