Microsoft is reportedly planning to release a Surface Phone which will carry the Surface brand name. The tech company already has Windows 10 phone brand but it appears to be planning to create a new smartphone product line.
The tech giant will be holding a press event later this month in New York City and it is expected to make announcements about the upcoming Microsoft Surface Phone and other products. Reports reveal that the event will only focus on Windows 10 but many tech enthusiasts are not convinced that the company will not be introducing new products, as per SlashGear.
However, the speculated Microsoft Surface Phone might not be released this year even if it is announced later this month. It will most likely be out in the first half of 2017 at the price range of $699 to $1,100. Some think that it will replace the Lumia phone brand but that might not be the case since Surface Phone can be in the same market together.
As for the specifications and features of the upcoming device, it might look like a small version of the Microsoft Surface tablet. With that being said, it might also have functionalities similar to that of said tablet. Surface Phone is expected to be powered by a 64-bit Intel processor and a 4 GB RAM, as per PC Advisor. The upcoming smartphone will have enhanced graphics as it will feature a 5.5 AMOLED display with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixel.
Surface Phone has the ability to produce quality photos as it will include a 21MP rear-facing camera and an 8MP camera in the front. A microSD card slot will be added that can accommodate 64 GB or 128 GB of storage. Meanwhile, Microsoft has not yet confirmed any reports regarding the new phone brand but many techies are positive that the reports are not just rumors.
