Much to the chagrin of many, "The WarZ" has been reintroduced to Steam, Valve's digital distribution system. The game has been a lightning rod for controversy almost since the release. Fans accused developer Hammerpoint and creator Sergey Titov of fraud, declaring the game was a far cry from what they were promised, and that the game itself was seen as a cash grab scam.
Even when the beta launched, things at Hammerpoint were a bit...off. One user who requested a refund received a response from a mod telling the player that if a refund was made for him now, he would be but on "a global black list of non-trusted users and some services may refuse" the player in "providing a payment in future."
An ex-mod also accuses Hammerpoint of "randomly banning accounts that have a certain amount of time spent playing in-game, knowing they are hooked on the game so they re-buy the game."
Valve removed the game from Steam in mid-December, after the many numerous complaints from fans, and requests for refunds. Things finally got bad enough that Titov finally issued a carefully worded apology to players.
The game has undergone some patching since its banishment, but many aren't convinced the game has actually been improved. Fans are equally split on the issue, with some (mostly in the forums) rabidly defending the game, and others renewing their call to have the game removed from Steam once again.
A game with this much negativity surrounding it should be enough to keep most away. With the game back up, players are now welcome to try the game for themselves, but count yourself warned.
