Robert Downey Jr. confirms there is no "Iron Man 4" currently in Marvel Studio's pipeline nor any plan for next iteration. Although "The Avengers: Age of Ultron" was a product of contract extension forged between Downey and Marvel, it seems that Tony Stark may not appear for sometime in another solo movie.
Rumors circulate that Downey's Iron Man is leading towards shared appearances with other Marvel characters. Fans realized that there is a gist of truth behind these speculations when Downey shared lead roles with Chris Evans' Captain America in "The Avengers: Civil War." Then Downey pivots from superhero genre to dramatic role in "The Judge." These chain of events leads to belief that "Iron Man 4" calls for a halt.
What could be considered as final nail in the coffin is Downey's two-lined statement in the Toronto International Film Festival in reference to "Iron Man 4." The flamboyant actor first sentence was clear that Marvel did not shooting any fourth appearance for Tony Stark character, Cinema Blend said. Then he stressed that even plans or script are absent as of current. But what could be the reason behind Marvel's decision to shelve solo Iron Man if Downey is undisputed biggest money draw they posses?
One interesting lead to dissect "Iron Man 4," is Downey's hefty cost of at least $50 million per film. Not that he is not worth it because Iron Man franchise is so far the biggest income-earner for Marvel, Money Nation reported. In fact, "Iron Man 3" finished with more than $1 billion in box office. At any rate, Downey agreed for 10 Iron Man appearances costing a staggering total of almost $500 million. This leads to presumptions that Marvel is shying from the actor's solo role cost.
Make no mistake about it, "Iron Man 4" might not come to fruition but Downey is still undoubtedly on top of the Marvel food chain. Iron Man is slated for three upcoming titles namely, "Spider-Man: Homecoming" and two parts of "The Avengers: Infinity War."
